A FESTIVAL IN SRI LANKA

Sinhala Tamil New year is a  very important festival for us Sri Lankans.πŸ˜ŠπŸ’— but we could not celebrate the New Year due to the Corona epidemic.πŸ˜©πŸ˜“

We have religious and national festivals in our country.✋ Sinhala and Tamil new year is a great and wonderful festival. It falls in the month month of April 13 or 14 every year. This is a traditional festival because we have traditional customs. Some of them are commencement of work, consumption of food, anointing of oil.

We receive a university vacation to celebrate this festival. Our parents clean and paint the homes before the new year.πŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’œWe buy new clothes and gifts for the new year. Our mothers never forget to prepare traditional sweetmeats like konda kevum,πŸ˜‹ kokis, Mung-kevum, Asmi, Athirasa, Murukku.

We can hear the sound of Cuckoo bird and fire crackers in the new season. At the punya kalaya people go to temple and do religious activities.😊 Our fist custom is commencement of work. Our motherπŸ‘± prepare milk rice according to the auspicious time After that we are join consumption of food secondly.πŸ˜‹

All of family membersπŸ‘ͺπŸ’— sit together and eat milk rice and other new year food.We share new year food with neighboursπŸ‘¬πŸ‘ and relations and visit them with gifts. Then , new year is a festival of unity and peace. we have the chance to see new year festivals in the village.

We can engage in new year games..😊some of them pillow-fight, tug-of-war, breaking the pots, greasy pole climbing, coconut scraping competition.

The ceremony of anointing oil is a special festival.😊We hold this festival in national level.Everybody goes to the village temple to anoint oil and the chief prelate of village temple fulfils this event. After few days, the people resume their normal life style  going to their jobs according to the auspicious time. Then, we can see unique features of this festival. We have a responsibility to protect these customs for next generation.πŸ‘ˆπŸ‘Œ
